YOUNG FEMALE WORKERS 2025-

[The series Young Female Workers has been presented in a collaboratively created zine and at Gallery Toinen Silmä 25.-30.11.2025 in Helsinki.]

I spent my youth working as a young, low-paid female worker on short-term contracts, observing how social reforms and improvements in living conditions rarely reached people like me. It often felt that the existence, scope, and ways of being of female workers remain hidden in our society, and they are seldom truly seen.

For a long time, I had been thinking about creating a project on this subject, and I finally felt that I had gained enough distance from my own experiences and developed the tools necessary to approach the theme in my artistic work.

In autumn 2025, I interviewed the women who participated in my photoshoots, focusing my questions on their perceptions of their social position and visibility. I discovered that the experience of invisibility—and even discrimination—was a recurring theme for all those photographed and interviewed.

The photography continues through the winter of 2025 and spring of 2026, expanding to include new female workers. I have also begun developing a short documentary for my upcoming exhibition, with the aim of giving a direct voice to young female workers within my project.
